Their goal was to build high-performance dirt bikes using the best components from around the world, designed specifically for off-road racing and recreational riding.
Over the years, Dirt Bikes USA has grown from a small workshop into a respected manufacturer known for quality, innovation, and dedication to the sport. Our headquarters and production facility now house over 120 skilled employees across design, engineering, production, sales, and customer service.

Our Story
Dirt Bikes USA began with two friends, Carl Schmidt and Steven McFadden, who shared a love for riding, racing, and engineering. In the mid-1990s, they noticed that most high-performance dirt bikes in the U.S. were foreign-made, and they believed they could build something better—customizable, American-made, and designed for rugged off-road terrain.
Starting with lightweight, durable frames and high-quality components sourced from around the world, Carl and Steven quickly gained attention in the racing community. The turning point came when Steven won first place in the famous Barstow to Las Vegas desert race riding one of their custom bikes, sparking nationwide interest and confirming their dream of starting a company.
Dirt Bikes USA officially opened its first production facility in 1996 in Carbondale, Colorado. From a two-man operation, the company has grown to over 120 employees, including designers, engineers, technicians, and customer support specialists—all committed to teamwork, innovation, and quality craftsmanship.
Today, Dirt Bikes USA continues to produce some of the most respected endurance and motocross motorcycles in the nation. From racers competing in national events to recreational riders exploring trails, our customers ride with confidence knowing their bike was designed and built by people who truly understand the sport. Our story continues—one race, one ride, one innovation at a time.
